A man has been sentenced to six years in New Jersey state prison for slamming 62-year-old man on a concrete sidewalk.

Walter A. Williams, 30, of Paterson, was sentenced on Tuesday to an aggregate sentence of six years in New Jersey State Prison. He must serve a mandatory 85% of the sentence prior to parole eligibility.

The sentencing followed Williams’ guilty verdict on February 6, 2023, for second-degree aggravated assault and third-degree theft from the person.

The charges stemmed from an incident that occurred on November 15, 2020, at approximately 6:00 p.m., in the area of 442 Broadway.

The state presented evidence during the trial that Williams assaulted Luis Rey, 62, of Paterson. Williams allegedly took Rey and slammed him onto the concrete sidewalk, causing a broken collarbone, several broken ribs, and a head laceration. Williams also took certain property that Rey had in his possession prior to the assault.
