Jamal Rollins, a 29-year-old man from Hackensack, was arrested on Thursday in relation to a Paterson shooting.

Rollins was charged with attempted murder first degree, unlawful possession of a weapon second degree, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose second degree.

On May 5th, at approximately 10:59 p.m., police received a report that a 26-year-old male Paterson resident had arrived at Saint Joseph’s University Medical Center seeking treatment for a non-fatal gunshot wound. Following an investigation, it was determined that the shooting occurred in the area of Pearl Street and Summer Street in Paterson.

After Rollins was identified as a suspect, members of the Paterson Police Department apprehended him at around 3:50 p.m. in the area of 16th Avenue and Carroll Street in Paterson.

If convicted on the charges, Rollins faces decades in prison. The prosecutor has filed motions to keep him in jail until the charges are resolved.
