Paterson man pleads guilty to sexually abusing child

A man has pleaded guilty to sexually abusing a child on numerous occasions over three years, according to the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office.
Jose Elmer Enriquez, 48, of Paterson, pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree sexual assault on Wednesday.
Enriquez was arrested on July 23, 2022. He was accused of sexually assaulting a child on numerous occasions at the victim’s home in Passaic City between August 2014 and November 2017.
Police in Paterson learned about the abuse on July 20, 2020 and notified the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office.
Detectives from the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office investigated the matter, interviewing multiple witnesses and the victim.
As part of the plea agreement, Enriquez will serve 12 years in New Jersey State Prison. He must serve 85-percent of the sentence before parole eligibility. He will be subject to parole supervision for life and must register as a sex offender.
Enriquez is scheduled to be sentenced on November 6 at 1:30 p.m. before judge Imre Karaszegi.
