Man arrested in connection with Fourth of July double shooting in Paterson

A man has been arrested and charged with attempted murder for his role in a Fourth of July double shooting on Essex Street.
Anderson Martinez, 26-years-old, of Paterson, has been charged with first-degree attempted murder; second-degree unlawful possession of a handgun; second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose; second-degree certain persons not to have weapons; and second-degree aggravated assault.
Martinez is allegedly responsible for the shooting that occurred at 11:34 p.m. on July 4 on Essex and Madison streets. A 20-year-old man and a 19-year-old man, both of Paterson, were hurt in the shooting.
Both victims suffered non-fatal gunshot wounds.
Detectives identified Martinez as the alleged shooter. He was arrested at 3 a.m. on 21st Avenue and Chestnut Street on Wednesday, authorities said.
Martinez could face decades behind bars if convicted on the charges.
