A man was arrested on drugs and weapons charges on Monday. A second man, wanted for an outstanding warrant, was also nabbed at the same time on Madison Street, according to Passaic County Sheriff Richard Berdnik.

Steven A. Fields, 31, and Dontell T. Ward, 32, both of Paterson, were arrested on Madison and Essex streets at around 2:50 p.m.

Fields was leaning into a white Chevrolet Equinox via the front passenger side window chatting with two women sitting inside, detectives observed after responding to the area on report of a person with a gun at the intersection.

Detectives saw him tossing an object that later turned out to be a weapon into the vehicle. Fields was patted down and a bulge was detected in his groin and thigh area. He voluntarily stated it was drugs, authorities said. He had 50 envelopes of heroin stamped “Wakanda” in black ink and 10 brown vials of crack-cocaine. He was arrested and put into an unmarked sheriff’s vehicle.

Ward was spotted in the area during the investigation. He had an outstanding Bergen County Sheriff’s Office warrant for handgun possession. He was picked up and found in possession of 17 vials of crack-cocaine, authorities said.

Fields had tossed a stolen black and silver Taurus 9mm Model G2C into the vehicle. It was recovered on the passenger side of the Chevy.

Fields was charged with two drug offenses, five weapons charges. Ward was charged with drug possession.
