Paterson police officer accused of shoplifting at Marshalls

A Paterson police officer was arrested without incident on Thursday on charges of official misconduct and shoplifting.

Jeury DeJesus-Rodriguez, 25, of Paterson, faces charges of official misconduct and the disorderly persons offense of shoplifting. DeJesus-Rodriguez, who is employed by the police, is accused of shoplifting while working an overtime security shift at Marshalls in Paterson.

According to authorities, DeJesus-Rodriguez allegedly took several items of clothing to an employee bathroom, where he removed the packaging and price tags before leaving the store without paying. The combined retail value of the stolen items was $66.97.

If convicted, DeJesus-Rodriguez could face a maximum sentence of five years and 180 days in prison for the charges.
