Elizabeth man charged in Paterson shooting

Angelo-Jimenez

A man from Elizabeth was arrested Friday in connection with a July 21 shooting in Paterson.

Angelo Jimenez, 23, of Elizabeth, was charged with first-degree attempted murder, second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. Jimenez was arrested at approximately 1 a.m. on Friday near Garfield and Jefferson streets by Paterson police officers.

The charges stem from an incident on July 21, when police were dispatched at around 9:57 p.m. to the area of Prospect and Market streets in response to a reported shooting. Officers found a 43-year-old woman from Paterson with non-fatal gunshot wounds. She was transported to St. Joseph’s University Medical Center for treatment.

Investigators later identified Jimenez as the suspected shooter. He was taken into custody without incident.

If convicted, Jimenez could face decades in prison. Prosecutors are expected to file a motion for pretrial detention.
