A 34-year-old man from Paterson was arrested on Wednesday in connection with a shooting that occurred on August 23 in the area of Highland and Sparrow streets.
Jioni Rosado, 34, was taken into custody by the Haledon Police Department at approximately 7:15 p.m. in the area of Lee Avenue and Henry Street in Haledon. Rosado faces multiple charges, including first-degree attempted murder, first-degree robbery, first-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and being a certain person not to possess a weapon.
The charges stem from an incident on August 23, when police responded to a report of a shooting at approximately 11:10 p.m. in the vicinity of Highland and Sparrow streets. Upon arrival, officers found a 31-year-old Paterson man suffering from non-fatal gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to St. Joseph’s University Medical Center for treatment. Police were able to identify a potential crime scene, leading to the subsequent investigation that implicated Rosado.
If convicted on all counts, Rosado faces a combined maximum sentence of up to 90 years in prison. Some of these charges carry mandatory minimum sentences, requiring significant portions of the sentence to be served before becoming eligible for parole.
The State has announced plans to file a motion for pretrial detention, which will be scheduled before a Superior Court judge.
