A Paterson man was arrested Thursday after detectives linked him to child sexual abuse material stored in an online cloud account, according to Passaic County Acting Sheriff Gary Giardina.
Darrel D. Dye, 36, was taken into custody after the Passaic County Sheriff’s Office and the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force identified him as the individual responsible for uploading child pornography files. Detectives searched Dye’s residence in Paterson and seized several electronic devices.
During the search, a cellphone in Dye’s bedroom was found displaying a nude image of a young male child on its lock screen. Dye told detectives he captured the image from an online video. Additional child porn-related files were discovered on the device, authorities said.
Dye, who fills oxygen tanks for a welding supply company in Newark, is charged with maintaining child pornography, a first-degree crime, and two counts of possession of child pornography, second- and third-degree crimes. He is awaiting a first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court.
