The police arrested two people Monday following a shooting that injured a 46-year-old man near North Main and Arch streets.
Jose Ortiz is charged with attempted murder and several weapons offenses, and Yesenia Adorno faces a charge of attempted murder.
Ortiz, 31, and Adorno, both from Paterson, were taken into custody around 10:15 a.m. in the area of North and Clinton streets.
Police initially responded to the shooting at about 8:33 a.m., where they found a 46-year-old Paterson man suffering from a non-fatal gunshot wound. He was taken to St. Joseph’s University Medical Center for treatment.
The investigation determined Ortiz and Adorno were involved in the incident, according to authorities. Ortiz is charged with first-degree attempted murder, second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, possession of a firearm without a serial number, and possession of a high-capacity magazine.
Both could face lengthy prison sentences if convicted on the charges. The state has filed for pretrial detention for both Ortiz and Adorno, and they remain in custody pending court proceedings.
