A man has been charged in connection with the November 12 homicide near Godwin Avenue and Rosa Parks Boulevard.
Robert Davis, 43, of Paterson, faces charges including murder and attempted murder, both first-degree offenses. He is also charged with second-degree offenses of unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and certain persons not to possess weapons.
The charges stem from a shooting reported at approximately 3:49 a.m. on November 12. Police responding to the area of Godwin Avenue and Rosa Parks Boulevard found ballistic evidence of a shooting. Shortly afterward, officers were alerted to a car accident in front of Saint Joseph’s University Medical Center.
One of the car’s occupants, a 27-year-old Paterson man, exited the vehicle and entered the hospital, where he was admitted for treatment of a gunshot wound. The other occupant, a 21-year-old Staten Island man, was found inside the vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.
An investigation by authorities led to the identification of Davis as the alleged shooter. He was arrested on December 2 without incident.
The Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office has announced plans to file a motion for pre-trial detention, with a hearing to be scheduled in Superior Court.
If convicted, Davis faces potential penalties ranging from 30 years to life imprisonment for murder. Attempted murder carries a sentencing range of 10 to 20 years, while each of the second-degree weapons offenses is punishable by 5 to 10 years in prison.
