Police are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred Friday afternoon near Mercer and Franklin streets.

Officers responded to reports of gunfire at approximately 12:34 p.m. and found a 25-year-old Paterson man lying unresponsive with a gunshot wound, authorities said.

The victim, whose name has not been released, was transported to Saint Joseph’s University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The investigation is ongoing, and no arrests have been made. Police are asking anyone with information to contact detectives at 973-321-1120.
