A man was wounded in a shooting early Sunday near Madison and Ellison streets in Paterson.

Police responded to the area at approximately 4:20 a.m. after receiving a report of gunfire. Officers found a 23-year-old Paterson resident who had been shot. The man refused medical attention, according to police.

Investigators identified a potential crime scene in the area and are continuing to investigate.
