A 27-year-old man was arrested Thursday in connection with a December 29 shooting in the area of Highland and Park streets in Paterson.
Dandre Jacobus, 27, of Paterson, was charged with attempted murder, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and certain person not to possess a weapon, according to authorities.
Police responded to the area of Highland and Park streets at approximately 1:09 p.m. on December 29, 2024, following reports of a shooting. Officers found a 28-year-old male victim, also from Paterson, suffering from non-fatal gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to St. Joseph’s University Medical Center for treatment. A potential crime scene was located nearby, police said.
An investigation led to Jacobus being identified as the alleged shooter. He was arrested without incident at approximately 8:30 a.m. on January 23, 2025, by the New Jersey State Police Fugitive Task Force in the area of Liberty Street and Route 46 in South Hackensack.
If convicted on all charges, Jacobus faces a maximum sentencing exposure of 50 years in New Jersey State Prison, including 17 years and 1 month of parole ineligibility, followed by five years of parole supervision.
The state has announced plans to file a motion for pretrial detention.
