A Pennsylvania man was arrested on drug-related charges following a joint investigation by law enforcement, Passaic County Sheriff Thomas Adamo announced.
Werling Santiago Tejada-Jimenez, 31, of Reading, Pennsylvania, was charged with possession with intent to distribute fentanyl and possession with intent to distribute fentanyl within 1,000 feet of Dale Avenue Elementary School, Adamo said.
The arrest followed an investigation by the Passaic County Sheriff’s Office and U.S. Postal Police Special Agents, which led authorities to intercept a suspicious parcel intended for delivery in Paterson. A court-approved search of the package revealed it contained two kilograms of fentanyl, officials said.
On Feb. 11, authorities attempted a controlled delivery, but no one claimed the parcel. A second attempt was scheduled for Feb. 19, when Tejada-Jimenez entered a Paterson post office to retrieve the package. After accepting it, he was detained by sheriff’s detectives and postal inspectors, police said.
“I want to commend the Sheriff’s Detectives and Postal inspectors involved in this operation,” Adamo said. “A special thanks goes out to the Postal Service for participating in this important operation.”
Adamo added that authorities would continue efforts to prevent drug trafficking in the county.
“Drug dealers should not and will not be allowed to use public resources to facilitate their illegal activities,” he said. “The Sheriff’s Office will aggressively work to stop the flow of illegal drugs into Passaic County.”
