A Passaic County jury on Wednesday convicted a man of second- and third-degree charges of endangering the welfare of a child following a trial in Superior Court in Paterson.

Renato C. LaTorre, 25, of Paterson, was found guilty after a jury trial before Judge Barbara J. Buono Stanton. He was convicted of one count of second-degree endangering the welfare of a child and one count of third-degree endangering the welfare of a child.

According to investigators, on April 4, 2023, the Passaic County Sheriff’s Office Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children indicating that a Google account associated with LaTorre had uploaded 15 videos depicting child sexual abuse material between June 22 and July 18, 2022. Authorities later identified an additional 18 videos linked to the same account.

LaTorre was arrested on April 4, 2023, at about 10 a.m. at his residence in Paterson.

The trial began March 13 and concluded with a verdict on Wednesday. Judge Stanton scheduled LaTorre’s sentencing for May 9 at 9 a.m. He is being held at the Bergen County Jail pending that hearing.

Second-degree endangering the welfare of a child carries a potential sentence of five to 10 years in state prison with a mandatory five-year period of parole ineligibility. Third-degree endangering the welfare of a child carries a sentence of three to five years. LaTorre is also subject to parole supervision for life and Megan’s Law registration requirements.
