A 17-year-old male has been charged in connection with the March 22 homicide near 12th Avenue and East 24th Street in Paterson.
The teenager, a Paterson resident, is facing acts of juvenile delinquency that, if committed by an adult, would constitute murder and conspiracy to commit murder, both first-degree crimes. He is also charged with unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, both second-degree offenses.
The charges stem from a shooting that occurred around 5:05 p.m. on March 22. Police responded to reports of gunfire in the area and found Jah’Zyer Montgomery, a 21-year-old from Garfield, with multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to Saint Joseph’s University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Following an investigation, authorities identified the juvenile as a suspect. He was taken into custody without incident on Monday and is currently being held pending further court proceedings.
The case has been referred to the Passaic County Family Court, Juvenile Part.
