Tabiis-Sledge

The 24-year-old city man injured in a shooting on Doremus Street over the weekend shot himself, authorities said on Monday evening.

Tabiis Sledge is charged with weapons possession, according to the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office. He was found at the intersection of Doremus and Kearney streets at around 12:02 a.m. on Sunday suffering from a non-fatal gunshot wound.

Police rushed him to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center for treatment. Authorities learned he had been involved in a domestic violence incident earlier in the night. At the hospital, Sledge was charged with simple assault, criminal mischief, disorderly persons offenses, and resisting arrest, authorities said.

When police advised him of the charges at the hospital he resisted arrest, authorities said.

Sledge is scheduled to appear before a judge on Tuesday afternoon. Authorities will file motion for pre-trial detention.

Authorities said Sledge faces 5-10 years in state prison. He has to do a minimum of 3 and half years before parole eligibility under the Graves Act.
