Coronavirus cases in Paterson increase to 5,183 with 175 deaths

The number of people tested positive for the new coronavirus in Paterson increased by 66 to 5,183 on Monday afternoon, according to municipal government data.

Number of deaths from Covid-19 increased by 9 to 175, according to data.

The number of infections in Paterson has been slowly declining over the past several days.

Nursing homes

Infections at Paterson nursing homes has increased. Doctors Sub Acute Care on Birch Street had 30 confirmed cases and 1 death while the Complete Care at Fair Lawn Edge on East 43rd Street had 27 confirmed case and 7 deaths.

Paterson has three long-term care facilities. No data was available for Barnert Subacute Rehabilitation Center.

Testing

A private doctor, with support from mayor Andre Sayegh’s administration, has opened a testing site near the old Barnert Hospital on Monday morning. The site requires a person to have a prescription and be a resident of Paterson to get tested. It functioned as a walk-in testing site. It is open every day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Sayegh is expected to announce a second such testing site in the southern part of the city on Tuesday.

The Paterson Housing Authority has said it is testing seniors at six buildings for the virus.

Paterson has the largest outbreak of the virus in Passaic County.

Passaic County has 13,496 infections with 633 deaths. Overall, New Jersey had 128,269 cases with 7,910 fatalities on Monday.
