paterson-heat

Paterson is set to experience a significant heatwave beginning Sunday and lasting through the middle of the week, bringing extended periods of high temperatures and humidity.

Temperatures will start Sunday near 88 under bright sunshine. Monday’s high is expected to reach 89 with partly cloudy skies. The heatwave will peak Tuesday and Wednesday, with highs around 91. Southwesterly winds will increase humidity, pushing the heat index to levels that can be dangerous for vulnerable populations.

Residents in Paterson should stay hydrated, use air conditioning when possible, check on elderly neighbors and relatives, and avoid strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest parts of the day.

A weather pattern change will arrive Wednesday night, bringing chances of showers and thunderstorms before 8 p.m., with continued chances through early Thursday morning. Overnight lows will be near 73, with a 30 percent chance of precipitation. Cooler temperatures will follow Thursday, with highs around 85.

The weekend will offer relief, with mostly sunny conditions Friday and highs near 85. Saturday and Sunday will see a mix of sun and clouds and temperatures in the upper 80s.
