The Passaic Valley Water Commission has lifted the boil water advisory issued nearly a month ago for most customers in Paterson and for the entire Borough of Prospect Park on Sunday.
The advisory was lifted following extensive water quality testing conducted in coordination with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection and local health officials. The water has been deemed safe to drink in those areas, except for specific sections of Paterson where an interconnection with the Manchester Utilities Authority remains in place. The MUA has not yet lifted its own boil water advisory.
The impacted areas in Paterson include Katz Avenue; Kearney Street between Katz Avenue and Granite Avenue; Granite Avenue between Redwood Avenue and West Broadway; West Broadway between Katz Avenue and Granite Avenue; and Jasper Street between Katz Avenue and Granite Avenue.
Customers in Haledon and North Haledon who are served by the MUA must continue to boil water for at least one minute before use until the advisory is lifted by that agency.
Officials are urging customers in areas where the advisory has been lifted to take precautionary steps before resuming normal water usage. These include flushing all cold-water faucets for 8 to 10 minutes, cleaning or replacing showerheads and faucet aerators, draining and refilling hot water heaters, and cleaning appliances such as ice makers and water dispensers. Customers are also advised to flush refrigerator water dispensers, service water softeners and cartridge filters, and refill water reservoirs in tall buildings.
“We thank our customers for their patience and cooperation throughout this boil water advisory,” said Jim Mueller, executive director for the Passaic Valley Water Commission. “We also thank our dedicated employees and contractor J. Fletcher Creamer for working tirelessly to restore service and ensure water quality. This event underscores the importance of PVWC’s capital replacement program, which is designed to modernize aging infrastructure and strengthen system reliability.”
