Cleaning Up Great Falls: “Slam Dunk the Junk”

Hundreds of volunteers from many different organizations and groups descended  on to Overlook Park on Saturday, in what is called, “Slam Dunk the Junk,” city clean up.

The organizers of the event had a smaller number of people in mind for the clean up, but when more than 200 people arrived to do their part in the clean up process, the organizers did not have enough shirts for the volunteers. The large number demonstrated to the organizers that most Patersonians want a clean city, and they are not simply saying so but are actively doing their bit to see the goal realized.

The clean up lasted for more than 3 hours, and yielded hundreds of bags of garbage.

In the past there has been many many efforts at clean up, but it seems every year such event takes place, but the city never becomes clean of litter.

Most of the cleaners were high school students and those in their teens; if the city can instill in its youth the importance of keeping their surroundings clean it could yield future dividends for Paterson.
