A state superior court judge has ruled that the November 6, 2012 election for the 2nd ward council seat will go forward. The announcement today lifts the sense uncertainty felt by other candidates who have prepared to run for the coming election: 5 candidates have already handed in petitions, and ballots have been printed.
This marks another loss for Mohammed Akhtaruzzaman who has been fighting a downhill battle against his opponent Aslon Goow, who he defeated in the May 2012 election and will face again in the coming election next month. Both men are running for the seat, yet again, with three other candidates.
Mr Akhtaruzzaman wanted to hold onto his council seat as he appeals the decision made by Superior Court Judge Thomas F. Brogan, which he won in May, but as a result of voter registration discrepancy Mr Brogan nullified his victory, resulting in a special election.
