A man was shot on Lyon Street, early morning, on Friday, while attempting to stop a group from lighting firecrackers on the street, according to Paterson Police.

The victim, 38-year-old, was attending a backyard grilling party for the 4th of July, at around 1:45am, on Lyon Street, when he noticed a group of men igniting fireworks near the home.

The man went outside to tell the group to stop or move away from the property, but an argument escalated into a confrontation, which resulted in one of the group member producing a handgun. The 38-year-old was shot in the left thigh.

When police responded they found the wounded victim lying on the sidewalk; the man was transported to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center for treatment. The suspects, after shooting the victim, fled. Police are investigating the incident.
