A city drug dealer and his out-of-town drug buyer were arrested near Chester Street on Monday afternoon, according to Richard Berdnik, the Passaic County Sheriff.
Denziel Smith, 22, a city resident and drug dealer, and John Rensing, 22, Wayne resident and drug buyer, were arrested Monday at 3:30 p.m. at the intersection of Chestnut Street and Cedar Street.
Detectives from the sheriff’s office were out on the street doing drug enforcement operation when they observed a drug transaction between Smith and Rensing. “Narcotics detectives observed a hand-to-hand narcotics transaction,” said Berdnik in a statement. “Narcotics detectives moved-in on the two and placed them under arrest without incident.”
170 packets of heroin were recovered from the two men. “Rensing was in possession of 20 packets of heroin that he purchased from Smith moments earlier,” said Berdnik. “Smith was found to be in possession of an additional of 150 packets of Heroin and $ 1,180.00 in US currency that will be seized as proceeds derived from the sales of Heroin.”
Smith was charged for drug distribution and possession – Smith remains in Paterson Police lockup; Rensing was charged for drug possession, and was released pending a court appearance at the city’s municipal court.
