A city man is in critical condition after being wounded in the upper body near Ellison Street during the early morning hours of Saturday, according to the Paterson Police Department.

The victim was in the area of Ellison and East 18th Streets at around 4:15 a.m. on Saturday when gunfire rang out.

Multiple gunshots were fired in the parking lot across the street from the Walgreens. Police received reports of shots fired in the area, and responded.

Officers found the victim barely conscious after being struck more than once. The victim, shot multiple times, was transported to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center for treatment.

The victim was pronounced dead in the hospital sometime later, according to police as of Saturday afternoon.
