Morris Canal Greenway hikes return; five hikes planned

After holding a successful series of hikes last year, the Passaic County Department of Planning and Economic Development and the Canal Society have five Morris Canal Greenway hikes planned this year throughout the county.

“We are happy to announce the dates and locations for the 2014 Hike Series,” said Jason Simmons with the county. “If you were unable to make one of the previous hikes or would like to revisit a part of the canal please join us.”

During the spring last year both organizations held a similar walk that brought and enlightened hundreds of county residents about the role the canal played in the development of New Jersey.

During the 1800s and early 1900s the canal served the same purpose as modern day highways allowing for the free flow of people and goods throughout the North East.
