Two city men were wounded in a shooting incident early Saturday morning while walking on Temple Street, according to the Paterson Police Department.
The victims, both 21-year-old, city residents, were in the area of Temple and North 6th Streets, at around 2 a.m. Saturday, when they approached a group of men hanging out near the intersection.
An argument ensued between the group and the two men. One of the group member produced a gun and the two men attempted to flee, according to Patrick Murray of the Ceasefire Unit. Police received a call of shots fired in the area and responded.
No victims were found. “Approximately five minutes later, we received a call from a resident on North 4th Street, saying there was a gunshot victim there,” said Murray. On arrival police found the first victim with a gunshot wound to the left upper thigh.
“While he was being transported to the hospital, St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center reported a second shooting victim had arrived by private vehicle.”
The second victim, who made it to the hospital, had a gunshot wound to the left leg, said Murray. The victim told police the two men were walking on Temple Street, and as they approached North 6th Street, they encountered a group of five men and became involved in a verbal argument with the group, said Murray. Police are investigating the incident.
