A city man was wounded by a single gunshot early Sunday morning while walking at the intersection of North 4th Street and Clinton Street, according to the Paterson Police Department.
The victim, 21-year-old, city resident, was walking on Clinton Street at around 2:10 a.m. on Sunday, when he was wounded by a suspect. “The victim was walking in the area of Clinton and North 4 Streets, when a mini-van type vehicle pulled alongside of him, at which time a subject described as a black male passenger wearing a mask exited the vehicle, and began firing at the victim,” said police.
The victim was wounded by a single gunshot to the right hand, said Patrick Murray, head of the Ceasefire Unit.
Police responded to the incident after being alerted to gunfire in the area. “On arrival, officers initially were unable to locate a shooting scene, but located the victim, who was already being treated by Paterson Fire personnel near Temple and North 6 Streets,” said Murray. “The victim then sought help from an acquaintance who resided in the area, and police and medical personnel were contacted at that time.”
The victim was transported to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center for treatment. He is in stable condition, according to police.
The vehicle in the incident is being described as a “dark green” minivan with tinted windows. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Edgar Taylor or Detective Rolando Polio of the Ceasefire Unit at 973-321-1342.
