Paterson Ceasefire Peace Summit

Operation CeaseFire NJ is holding a peace summit with representatives from all branches of government on May 17th, 2014 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at International High School to discuss ways to address the violence that plagues city streets.

In attendance will be Camelia Valdes, Passaic County Prosecutor; Richard Berdnik, county sheriff; William Fraher, city’s police chief; Shavonda Sumter, assemblywoman representing New Jersey’s 35th Legislative District which includes the city; Bob Baskin of the Peace Alliance; Ruby Cotton, 4th Ward councilwoman, as well as other council members.

The panel will also include a judge possibly, said Rick Prince, president of the CeaseFire organization. Main focus will be ways of improving public safety and quality of life in the city by employing a collaborative approach.

Silk City School Based Youth and Youth Services Bureau will be in 200 Grand Street to take part in the event.
