A city man was wounded by gunfire on Grimes Place during the early morning hours of Saturday, according to the Paterson Police Department.
The victim, 24-year-old, was in front of 8 Grimes Place, near McLean Boulevard and Park Avenue, with a group of people at around 5:30 a.m. on Saturday when a member of the group produced a handgun following an altercation of some kind and fired at the victim, police said.
“At this time it appears that there was a group of persons congregating on Grimes Place, during which time there may have been an altercation of some type,” said Patrick Murray, head of the Ceasefire Unit. “During that altercation, someone present discharged a firearm, striking the victim.”
The victim was shot in the upper body area, police said. Police received report of a man shot in the area and responded. Officers found the victim at a parking area near the address.
The victim was rushed to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center for treatment where he is in critical condition, police said.
