43-year-old wounded in Watson Street shooting

A city man was wounded in a shooting incident near Watson Street during the late evening hours of Tuesday, according to the Paterson Police Department.

The victim, 43-year-old, was in the area of North Bridge and Watson streets at around 11:55 p.m. on Tuesday when he was struck by gunfire. The victim sustain a single gun shot injury to the upper leg, police said.

Police responded to the area after receiving alerts of gunfire in the First Ward neighborhood. Officers found the wounded victim and rushed him to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center for treatment. The victim is in stable condition, said Patrick Murray, head of the Ceasefire Unit.

A motive for the shooting remains unclear, police said. Murray said police are investigating the incident.
