A city man was wounded in a shooting in the 4th Ward during the evening hours of Thursday, according to the Paterson Police Department.
The victim, 34-year-old, was wounded at the intersection of Hamilton Avenue and Auburn Street at around 9:15 p.m. on Thursday, police said. Officers responded to the scene after receiving alerts of gunfire in the area.
“Upon arrival, officers located a 34 year old male lying on the sidewalk with an apparent gunshot wound to the lower leg,” said Patrick Murray, head of the Ceasefire Unit.
Police rushed the victim to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center for treatment. He was treated and released from hospital, police said.
“At this time, it appears that the victim was involved in a verbal argument with an unknown male prior to the incident,” said Murray. “The male then left the area and returned a short time later, armed with a handgun. At that time, the male fired at the victim, striking him once before fleeing the scene.”
Ceasefire Detectives are continuing the investigation at this time, and anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Edgar Taylor or Detective Rolando Polio of the Ceasefire Unit at 973-321-1342.
