26-year-old wounded in shooting near 16th Avenue

A city man was wounded during the late afternoon hours of Saturday at the intersection of Carroll Street and 16th Avenue, according to the Paterson Police Department.

The victim, 26-year-old, was in the area of 16th Avenue and Carroll Street at around 4:05 p.m. on Saturday. The victim heard gunshots and began to flee.

“As the victim began running from the area, he was struck in the upper arm, and was driven out of the area and to the hospital for treatment by an acquaintance,” Patrick Murray, head of the Ceasefire Unit, said.

The wounded victim was transported to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center for treatment by an acquaintance, police said. Murray said the victim is in stable condition at the hospital.

“It is not known at this time if the victim was the target,” Murray said. Police are investigating the shooting incident and are seeking assistance from the community.
