Police in Fairfield seized approximately 8-10 pound of suspected marijuana inside a package at a Federal Express facility in the Essex County town that was intended for a Paterson address on Thursday, according to the Fairfield Police Department.

A manager at the FedEx facility uncovered the drugs that was being shipped from California to Paterson, according to police. Authorities responded to the facility and seized the drugs estimated to be valued $30,000 on the streets, police said.

Deputy Police Chief Anthony Manna said the matter is under investigation. He said he could not disclose the California town from which the package originated.

“Any time there a seizure of this amount of drugs we’re not just going to let it lay around,” said Manna.

Manna said he could not disclose whether his department has reached out to local authorities in Passaic County and Paterson.

No arrests have been made, Manna said.
