City police arrested eight suspected prostitutes and the manager of Sunrise Gentleman’s Lounge in an undercover operation that took place at the Straight Street go-go bar on Friday evening.
Police director Jerry Speziale said eight women were charged for soliciting an undercover officer for prostitution. He also said a 9th person controlling the prostitution was also apprehended during the Friday night operation that took place at about 8 p.m.
Women arrested were: Sharon Serelio, 27, of Fort Lee; Tashika Wright, 23, of Bloomfield; Deidra Russell, 21, of Tobyhana, PA; Karen Carballo, 32, of Elizabeth; Cindy Perez, 22, of Bronx, NY; Natasha Polvac, 22, of Passaic; Jatnna Jimenez, 26, and Maercy Galva, 23, both of Paterson.
Also arrested was Elena Mandelos, 33, of New York, NY, Speziale said. The director said Mandelos has been charged with maintaining a place of prostitution and controlling a prostitution business.
Mandelos allegedly told an undercover officer that the “house” gets a cut if he wants to have sex with a girl, said Speziale.
Speziale said the undercover operation was conducted with assistance from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, Elmwood Park, and Bloomingdale.
“Teamwork is part of our overall success in this fight against drugs, prostitution,” said Speziale.
