City police officer Tamariz Rodriguez revived a drug overdose victim on Sunday afternoon in the corner of Auburn Street and Hamilton Avenue, said police director Jerry Speziale.

The 49-year-old victim was in a supine position at the intersection at about 5:22 p.m. on Sunday suffering from having overdosed on an unknown substance that was believed to be PCP. Several people noticed the victim in the corner, so they flagged down a police patrol car.

Rodriguez who was on routine patrol of the area responded to the situation. The officer administered one burst of Narcan to reverse the effects of the overdose. The victim immediately came out of the overdosed condition and was transported by ambulance to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center.

“Once again, the quick thinking and reaction of this officer just typifies the professionalism of Paterson’s finest,” said Speziale. “They’re truly dedicated to the welfare of all residents.”
