City man charged with attempted murder for trying to run over police officer

Police have arrested a city man who attempted to run over a police officer with a stolen vehicle on 17th Avenue and East 32nd Street in December of last year.

Mikey Ramos, the suspect, was arrested on Friday and charged with attempted murder and weapon possession, in connection to the December 22nd, 2014 incident. Ramos was driving a stolen vehicle on 17th Avenue and East 32nd Street when police officer Cesar Heyjaime attempted to pull him over.

Ramos halted the vehicle, but when Heyjaime approached he reversed and attempted to run over the officer. Another police officer David Baird, who was assisting Heyjaime with the motor vehicle stop, swiftly responded firing two shots at the stolen vehicle as it attempted to run over the officer.

Ramos struck Heyjaime’s patrol vehicle on 17th Avenue and East 22nd Street and fled the scene on foot.

“If you commit a crime in Paterson, rest assure you’ll be tracked and face the justice system,” said police director Jerry Speziale. “The men and women of the Paterson Police Department are relentless in there follow up in pursuit of justice.”
