A former city police officer has been arrested for allegedly dealing prescription pills through a Craigslist to an undercover Bergen County detective, according to the Bergen County Prosecutor John Molinelli.
Gines Rodriguez III, 43-year-old, of Pompton Lakes, was charged Thursday afternoon with Oxycodone distribution and unlawful possession of weapons for carrying a weapon while committing a drug offense, authorities said.
Rodriguez allegedly posted a Craigslist advertisement offering for sale prescription pills, authorities said. In March, an undercover detective responded to the ad. Rodriguez met the detective at a location in Fair Lawn to purchase Oxycodone pills.
Rodriguez sold to the undercover detective the pills, authorities said. Again on April 22 undercover detectives negotiated the purchase of additional pills from the retired police officer. After that Bergen County Narcotic Task Force and Clifton police arrested Rodriguez near a Walgreens on 835 Van Houten Avenue in Clifton, authorities said.
Rodriguez was arrested without an incident. Authorities recovered a .40 caliber Glock handgun, an H&K 9 millimeter handgun, and a Colt .25 caliber handgun, authorities said. The three guns were recovered by authorities. Rodriguez was also found in possession of Oxycodone pills as well as Percocet and small amount of marijuana was seized from his vehicle, authorities said.
The former cop was transported to Bergen County jail in lieu of $25,000 bail with no 10-percent option, authorities said.
