The New Jersey Department of Transportation awarded Passaic County $250,000 for a proposed sidewalk improvement project near the downtown Paterson train station as part of its safe streets to transit program.
$1 million was awarded under the program on Friday to four municipalities. Pleasantville City in Atlantic County received the largest grant of $500,000. Paterson received the second largest amount.
Delran Township in Burlington County received $176,000 and Voorhees Township in Camden County received $74,000.
The department received 48 applications requesting $13.4 million from the program. The county’s Paterson Transit Facility Pedestrian Safety Project will rehabilitated broken sidewalks, create green buffer zones between walkways and roadways, and build accessibility ramps for the disabled near the Ward Street train station.
