A teenage girl was wounded in a shooting on Park Avenue during the early morning hours of Saturday, according to the Paterson Police Department.

The victim, 17-year-old, of Clifton was in the area of Park Avenue between Rosa Parks Boulevard and Carroll Street, at around 2:10 a.m. when gunshots struck her in the upper back, police said.

Police responded to the reports of gunshots fired in the area, but were unable to locate a shooting victim. Minutes later, police received a call a female victim with gunshot wound was in the area of Market Street and Madison Avenue.

Upon arrival, police found the victim seated in the passenger side of a vehicle with gunshot wound to the back, Patrick Murray, head of the Ceasefire Unit, said.

“At this time it appears that the victim was in that vehicle in the Park Avenue area when shots were fired and she was struck,” Murray said. “She was then driven out of the area to Market Street and Madison Avenue, where the driver pulled over and the victim summoned help, at which time police and medical personnel were notified.”

The victim was transported to St. Joseoph’s Regional Medical Center for treatment. Murray said the teen is in critical but stable condition.
