A city man was wounded in the lower back late Sunday night when a flurry of gunfire lit up the vicinity of Market Street, according to the Paterson Police Department.
The victim, 21-year-old, sustained gunshot wound to the back at around 10:15 p.m., police said.
“At this time it appears that the victim was walking in the area of Oak and Dover Streets when he heard multiple shots fired and was struck in the back,” Patrick Murray, head of the Ceasefire Unit, said.
Police were dispatched to the scene on reports of more than a dozen gunshots fired in the area. Minutes later, police received a call from St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center that a gunshot victim had arrived by private vehicle.
Murray said the victim’s friend transported him to the hospital for treatment. The victim was treated for his injuries and is in stable condition, police said.
Police continue to investigate the shooting. Anyone with information about this incident is being asked to contact Detective Edgar Taylor and Christopher Ravallese of the Ceasefire Unit at 973-321-1342 or through anonymous text to 274637.
