Two loaded semi-automatic handguns were recovered stashed near a factory building on East 28th Street, according to Passaic County Sheriff Richard Berdnik.
Recovered was a loaded Taurus .45 caliber semi-automatic and a loaded KelTec 9mm semi-automatic, authorities said. Both weapons were reported stolen in other states.
The Taurus was reported stolen on August 11, 2014 out of Pennsylvania and the KelTec was reported stolen out of Georgia on January 16, 2013, authorities said.
Sheriff’s detectives received information about the guns stashed in the area of East 28th Street and 19th Avenue that led to the recovery, Berdnik said.
The weapons recovery was part of a pre-holiday operation conducted by Berdnik’s office on Wednesday.
“I am glad that this short term operation yielded three arrests and the confiscation of two loaded handguns,’ the sheriff said. “It’s unfortunate that narcotic activity also oftentimes includes loaded handguns.”
