I want to take this time to personally welcome each and everyone of you back to a fresh new school year. I trust that you have enjoyed your vacation and are ready to work hard in the classroom.
This is your year.
To the parents: I encourage you to play an even greater role in your child’s educational endeavors. Your influence, support and guidance are vitally important as it relates to the overall academic success of your child. Make sure that you take time to familiarize yourself with the district’s parent/student handbook. Make sure that you meet all of your child’s teachers.
If you haven’t done so already, please consider joining the PTA/PTO at your child’s school. Joining these groups will help to provide support for you as a parent. You’ll meet other parents and gain much needed knowledge on how to navigate through the often complex district guidelines and systems.
If your child has an IEP or 504 plan be sure to connect with his or her guidance counselor as soon as possible to get information as to what this year will entail as opposed to last year.
Finally, enjoy the year. Make sure that your child reads to you each night, including weekends. Following these few steps will ensure the best academic outcomes for your child.
All the best,
Corey L. Teague
School board member.
