The Boys and Girls Club of Passaic and Paterson distributed 500 backpacks filled with school supplies to its young members on Friday just days before students enter the classrooms for a new school year.
“We know how important it is to be prepared for school and our sponsors ensured that the children of our community will start the new year off with the tools and supplies they need,” stated executive director of the club Peter Thornton.
Items were collected by sponsors of the club’s “Stuff the Bus” initiative in August. Sponsors included Toyota Financial Services, ADP, Moe’s Southwest Grill, the PitCChIn Foundation, Haier America, and individual donors.
The club operates two clubhouses and ten satellite locations in public schools and community centers daily serving 1,000 kids between the ages of 5 and 18. Academic, athletics, artistic activities are someone of what the club offers to enrich the lives of children in Paterson and Passaic.
“Whether it is after school enrichment programs, learning to make healthy choices or participating in recreational athletics, The Boys & Girls Club is a safe, positive learning environment for the children of Passaic,” Thornton said.
