A city man was arrested early Wednesday morning and a loaded Glock handgun was recovered, according to Passaic County Sheriff Richard Berdnik.

Shameed Johnson, 27-year-old, was arrested at around 2:04 a.m. Wednesday on weapon charges in the area of 12th Avenue and East 23rd Street, authorities said.

Authorities recovered a loaded 40 caliber Glock model 27 handgun with 21 rounds, Berdnik said. Johnson was trailed following report of a robbery on Park Avenue and East 22nd Street by a suspect wearing black mask.

Sheriff’s Sgt. Atme listened in on a city police transmission and headed to East 22nd Street between Hamilton and 12th avenues.

Atme observed Johnson wearing a black mask, black wool hat, gray sweatshirt, gray sweatpants and a handgun. Johnson looked at Atme and began to jog towards 12th Avenue towards East 23rd Street.

Johnson was observed dropping black object on the lawn of a 12th Avenue home. Officer Fajardo and others joined Atme and took Johnson into custody. Johnson was charged with unlawful gun possession and possession of high capacity magazine.

Authorities said Johnson had an outstanding warrant out of Paterson.

“By acting quickly, Sergeant Atme was able locate the suspect and get this dangerous suspect with a loaded weapon off our street,” Berdnik said.

Johnson was processed and transported to police holding cell.
