Two city men were arrested on weapon and drug charges during a traffic stop on Thanksgiving, according to Passaic County Sheriff Richard Berdnik.

Alkareem Wilson, 28, and Anthony Moore, 33, have been charged in possession of marijuana and a handgun during a traffic stop on Straight and Montgomery streets Thursday, Berdnik said.

Sheriff’s officer John Tolerico conducted a motor vehicle stop, approached the driver of the Ford Taurus, identified Wilson, and asked for license and insurance.

Wilson could not produce a driver’s license because his driving privilege was suspended, authorities said.

Tolerico smelled marijuana.

A search of the vehicle’s rear resulted in the recovery of a Bernardelli 9 mm handgun with 17 rounds in a magazine. Traces of marijuana was also found inside the vehicle, Berdnik said.

Moore, passenger, was ordered to step out of the car. He complied and stepped out. Wilson was found to have an outstanding $1,000 warrant out of Paterson.

Wilson and Moore were charged with gun possession, having a weapon when barred from doing so, and having a weapon for an unlawful purpose.

Wilson was also charged with marijuana possession and was issued several motor vehicle tickets.

Berdnik said the vehicle was impounded and both Wilson and Moore were transported to city police lockup.
