A Newark-based charter school received approval to operate in Paterson on Tuesday, according to the New Jersey Department of Education.

Philip’s Academy Charter School of Paterson is scheduled to open in September 2016-2017 school year, according to the state.

The school will start with 45 kindergarten students and by year four it will have 180 students in grades K-3.

Philip’s Academy Charter School of Paterson is the fifth charter school approved for Paterson. There are 89 charter schools operating in New Jersey.
