City police arrested a man who was allegedly armed with a machete outside a Market Street liquor store, according to police.
City resident Rafael Arias, age unknown, was among a group that gathered outside 472 Market Street at about 8:04 p.m. on Thursday, according to police.
Police officers Marc De Francesco and Manuel Gonzalez exited their vehicle upon seeing a large group hanging outside the liquor store. The group dispersed.
Arias was observed quickly walking away with a large machete, according to police. Police officers gave chase and arrested him on charges of obstructing a public passage, possession of a weapon, unlawful possession of a weapon, according to police.
“These officers did a tremendous job utilizing directed patrol tactics and being observant of the activity in the community,” said police director Jerry Speziale.
