The city’s health department is laying off one employee after a grant that funded the position was lost, according to city officials, but ended up sending notices to all employees.

“This is to notify you that for reasons of the grant termination it is possible that you will be laid off from your permanent position,” read the notice that was sent to all employees on Monday from Donna Nelson-Ivy, the city’s health director. “If your position is subject to layoff, you may have the right to displace employees in other positions.”

Nelson-Ivy said in her entire department one person is being laid off “as a result of a contract that ended December 31st.”

The city lost a $49,000 grant that resulted in the layoff, said officials.. The layoff will be effective February 29th, 2016, reads the letter.
